Masterclass on Probabilistic Knowledge with Sarah Moss

Prof. Sarah Moss (Michigan) will give a masterclass on Probabilistic Knowledge at King’s College London on March 6th-7th, 2018. The masterclass will include guest talks by Siliva Milano (LSE), Jason Konek (Bristol), Matt Mandelkern (Oxford) & Daniel Rothschild (UCL), Bernhard Salow (Cambridge) and Richard Holton (Cambridge). The keynote lecture of the masterclass is a joint session with LSE’s Choice Group.

The event is open to graduate students and researchers from any institution. Attendance is free but registration is required. To register fill in the form below.

Here is a pdf version of the programme. Final location confirmed: though the strike is taking place and many of us would have preferred not to cross picket lines, the event will have to take place in KCL (venues below).

Clare Carlisle wins prize for best article published in 2017 in the JHP

Clare Carlisle (Department of Theology & Religious Studies and Cognate Faculty in the Philosophy Department, as well as co-organizer of the King’s History of Philosophy Seminar) has won the prize for the best article to appear in the pages of the Journal of the History of Philosophy in 2017 with her article,  “Spinoza’s Acquiescentia“, JHP 55.2 (April 2017): 209-236.

The winner is selected by a committee of the Board of Directors from among the two dozen or so articles published over four issues each year, with the result approved by the entire Board.  There were 26 articles published in Volume 55 (2017).

British Journal for the History of Philosophy Editorial

Mike Beaney’s editorial for the first issue of this year’s volume of the British Journal for the History of Philosophy has gone live: link.

He presents an analysis of the contents of the last 25 volumes of the BJHP, and compares what the BJHP and the Journal for the History of Philosophy (JHP) have published over the last 5 years. He discusses, in particular, the BJHP’s concern with broadening the range of articles it publishes on the history of philosophy.

Update: Prof. Beaney’s editorial has now become the subject of a post on the influential philosophy blog Daily Nous, here.

King’s History of Philosophy Seminar will meet regularly through the academic year at King’s College London.  The Seminar aims to promote discussion of methods and approaches to the History of Philosophy as well as of thinkers and topics within the tradition.  We wish to encourage contextual and interdisciplinary perspectives, and welcome researchers in disciplines such as History, Theology, and Political Theory as well as Philosophy.  Meetings take place on Fridays from 11am to 1pm.  All welcome.
